Quality Design initiative

Elevate the standard of online course design and delivery utilizing the Quality Matters Higher Education Course Design Rubric, 7th edition, to ensure a consistent and high-quality learning experience for all students.

  • Request a Canvas development course from ITS (do not work in a live course).
  • Attend the IYOC (or DYOC) workshop to earn a Credly badge and training certificate from QM.
  • Create your Course Improvement Plan and Course Map.
  • Login to MyQM and go to MyCR to start a Self-Review.
  • Use the GCSC QM Essentials 7th Ed. Rubric.
  • Note the type of review as "Internal".
  • Run TidyUp then UDOIT in the Canvas development course.
  • Identify and prioritize improvements according to your Course Improvement Plan.
  • Consult with Instructional Designers and peer mentors.
  • Teach the revised course for one semester and evaluate its readiness for a peer review.
  • Login to MyQM and go to MyCR to start a Review Application (notice of intention).
    • Confirm Gulf Coast State College as the Institution.
    • Select "Lori Driscoll" as the QM Coordinator.
    • Find your name as the Course Representative.
    • Select "GCSC QM Essentials Rubric, 7th Ed." for review.
  • Complete the Custom Worksheet (full application).
    • In MyQM > MyCR, go to "Work on Your Custom Worksheet".
    • Complete and submit the Custom Worksheet with all requested attachments.
  • Invite reviewers as Designers, not Students, in your development course.
  • Obtain student-level access accounts from publishers for reviewers if you direct students to publisher materials outside of Canvas.
  • Await contact from the QM Coordinator or Instructional Designer to begin the active review.

GCSC conducts reviews using the QM internal review process for GCSC QM Essentials Certification.

Peer Review Team Composition

  • QM Certified Peer Reviewer (Instructional Designer), Team Lead
  • QM Certified Peer Reviewer (another faculty member)
  • Faculty member (you!)

Process

Trained reviewers provide feedback on course design and evaluate alignment with the 22 Essential specific review standards, emphasizing constructive recommendations and a student-centered perspective.
